BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore Danielle Poto has been selected to the Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-District One Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A three-sport athlete, Poto advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration.  She is the program’s third women’s cross country/track and field student-athlete in the last four years to earn the honor.  Molly Rouillard (‘13) and Sarah Lagasse (‘12) were named to the team in 2013 and 2011, respectively.

Of the 13 District One honorees, Poto is among four student-athletes from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) voted to the team joining Westfield State’s Targie Gervais and Worcester State’s Christy Deininger and Alyssa Jasper.  District One is comprised of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

A native of North Andover, Massachusetts, Poto currently sports an impressive 3.96 grade point average.  She is majoring in Spanish with a minor in Secondary Education and has been named to the Dean’s List in each of her first four semesters at Bridgewater State. Danielle is also a six-time MASCAC All-Academic Team selection.

Poto garnered All-MASCAC honors with a second place finish at the MASCAC Cross Country Championships this past fall. She was named the MASCAC Runner of the Week an impressive six times during the season and also earned All-New England Alliance status.

During the winter indoor season, Danielle helped the Bears capture the MASCAC championship as she scored in three events, the 3,000-meter run, the mile run and the 4x800-meter relay.  Poto also earned All-New England Alliance accolades in both the 3,000 and the mile.

This past spring season, Poto captured MASCAC individual titles and garnered All-New England Alliance honors in both the 1,500-meter run and the 5,000-meter run.  She capped off the season with a seventh place All-New England performance in the 10,000-meter run at the Division III New England Championships

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
