Women's Indoor Track & Field Competes at BU Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- Seniors Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.) and Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) and freshman Traci Perry (Middleboro,, Mass.) each qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in their respective events as the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday.

The non-scoring meet featured strong competition from around the region that included schools from all three Divisions and several local track clubs.

Anselmi placed 67th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.83 seconds while Geldmacher finished 88th with a time of 1:00.45.  Perry posted a time of 26.46 seconds to place 94th in the 200-meter dash as she was just 4/100 of a second off Kristin Neville's 2003 school indoor mark of 26.42.

Also in the 400, freshmen Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.) and Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) finished 107th (1:01.08) and 124th (1:02.00), respectively, as they both stamped their ticket to the Division III New England Championships.

Freshman Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) recorded a leap of five feet, three inches (1.60 meters) in the high jump to tie for 14th in the event.  Senior Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) placed 18th in the weight throw with a toss of 47 feet, ten inches (14.58 meters), while freshman Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished 23rd in the shot put with a heave of 37 feet, 6.75 inches.

Sophomore Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) tied for 40th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.53) and tied for 56th in the long jump (15'3.25").

The 4x400 meter relay of Pustis, Anselmi, Lane and Geldmacher recorded a season-best time of 4:03.75 as they foursome placed 31st in the event.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
