Women's Track & Field Places Second at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team placed second at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.

The Bears recorded 83.33 team points finishing behind meet champion and host Tufts University (212 pts.).

Freshmen Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) captured individual titles for the Bears.  Bennett placed first in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet, 1.25 inches (11.62 meters), while Richner took home top honors in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 1.75 inches (1.57 meters).

Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) placed second in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, six inches (5.03 meters). She also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 9.58 seconds and a finals time of 9.64 seconds.

Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) finished second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:41.59.  She also placed seventh in the high jump with a mark of four feet, 11.75 inches (1.52 meters).

Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) posted a distance of 48 feet, five inches (14.76 meters) in the weight throw to place second in the event.

Krevosky and Geldmacher qualified for the New England Division III Championships in each of their events, while Chiasson qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships.

The Bears' freshman 4x400 relay team of Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.), Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.), Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Sydney Vaughn (Lowell, Mass.) finished second with a time of 4:13.79.

Bridgewater's 4x800 relay squad of Geldmacher, Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass.), Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) and Samantha Pinkham (Hingham, Mass.) posted a third-place time of 10:33.60.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University.
