Bennett Breaks Shot Put Mark to Lead Women's Track & Field at Dartmouth Relays

HANOVER, N.H. – Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) eclipsed her own school record in the shot put to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track and field team at the 45th Annual Dartmouth Relays on Sunday. 

The meet featured top flight competition from several Division I and III schools from around the region along with several area track clubs. The Bears placed 13th in the team standings with a total of five points.

Bennett placed eighth in the shot put at the meet with a toss of 39 feet, seven inches (12.06 meters) as she broke her previous mark of 39 feet, 1.25 inches set at the season-opening UMass Boston Invitational.

Veronica Wiggins (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished 13th in the shot put with a heave of 37 feet, 7.75 inches (11.47 meters). Wiggins, who qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the event, also placed 12th in the weight throw (41'1.00").

Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) posted a tenth-place showing in the weight throw (43'9.00"), while Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) added a ninth-place performance in the high jump (5'2.50").  Both qualified for DIII New Englands in their respective events.

Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.) placed 12th in the 400-meter dash as she posted a time of 1:02.30 to qualify for DIII New Englands.

The Bears' relay squad of Anselmi, Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.), Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) finished sixth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:10.21.

Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) grabbed fifth place in the triple jump (33'8.50") and finished 32nd in the 60-meter hurdles (10.17).

Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) and Samantha Pinkham (Hingham, Mass.) placed 21st (11:06.21) and 30th (12:00.33), respectively, in the 3,000-meter run, while Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) finished 28th in the 60-meter dash (8.45).

Next weekend the Bears will compete at the Tufts Invitational.
