Women's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at UMass Boston Invitational

ROXBURY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's track and field team opened the 2013-2014 indoor season at the non-scoring UMass Boston Invitational held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Sophomore Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) had a solid first meet of the season capturing first place in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 11.25 inches (10.65m) and adding a sixth-place showing in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.89 seconds. Krevosky qualified for the Division III New England Championships in both events.

Senior Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass,) came in first in the 500-meter run with a time 1:20.19 as she qualified for DIII New Englands and the ECAC Championships.

Freshman Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) posted a first place finish in her collegiate debut as she took top honors in the high jump with a leap of five feet, three inches (1.60m). Richner qualified for DIII New Englands and ECACs.

Freshman Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) also competed well in her collegiate debut as she broke a 15-year old chool record and placed second in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 1.25 inches (11.92m) which qualifies her for DIII New Englands and ECACs. Bennett eclipsed the previous BSU indoor standard of 38 feet, 8.75 inches set by Amanda Hackett back in 1998

Sophomore Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) ran a time of 18.57.49 in the 5,000-meter run to finish seventh in the event and qualify for DIII New Englands.

The 4x400 team of senior Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.) and freshmen Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.), Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.) and Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) came in second place with a time of 4:12.25.

Sophomore Tshani Williams-Core (Dorchester, Mass.) finished second behind Krevosky in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 4.25 inches (10.47m) as she also qualified for DIII New Englands.

Senior Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) and freshman Veronica Wiggins (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed second and third, respectively, in the weight throw as they both qualified for DIII New Englands.  Chiasson posted a distance of 44 feet, 2.5 inches (13.47m) while Wiggins recorded a distance of 43 feet, three inches (13.18m).

The Bears are off until after the New Year when they compete at the Dartmouth Relays on January 12th.
