Chaisson Paces Women's Outdoor Track & Field At Eastern Connecticut Invitational

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass) led the Bears at the Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State, with a first, second, and a third, in her respective throwing events.

Chiasson won the hammer throw while breaking the school record and qualifying for the New England Championships and ECAC Championships. Her mark was 154 feet, 0.42 inches (46.95 meters). The previous record was 150 feet, 1.00 inch, set in 2003 by Alison Fletcher.

In the shot put, she added a second place with a throw of 31 feet, 4.37 inches (9.56 meters). Her third came in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 5.18 inches (33.05 meters).

Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass) captured an individual title in the 200, and was a part of two relay titles. McHugh won the 200 with a time of 26.59.

The 4x100 team of McHugh, Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass), Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, Mass), and Caitlin DiLorenzo (Seekonk, Mass) won by crossing the line in 50.76 seconds. The same four girls won the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:11.76. DiLorenzo added a second in the 200 with a time of 26.81.

Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass) added a first in the 100-meter hurdles (16.56) and a third in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 0.51 inches (4.89 meters). Erin Donovan (Groveland, Mass) placed second in the hurdles with a time of 17.09. Juliana Keene (Norton, Mass) captured the javelin title with a throw of 103 feet, 0.21 inches (31.40 meters).

Tshani Williams-Core (Dorchester, Mass) placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 31 feet, 6.73 inches (9.62 meters). Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass) and Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass) placed third (2:35.87) and fourth (2:37.31), respectively, in the 800.

Samantha Pinkham (Hingham, Mass) placed fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:23.06 to round out the Bridgewater State meet standouts.

The Bears will head to Fitchburg State University for the Eric Loeschner memorial Meet, which is slated to get underway at 10:00 am.
