Women's Indoor Track & Field Places Third at MASCAC Championships

GORHAM, Maine -- Led by four individual titles, the Bridgewater State University Bears finished third with 84 points at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine. The Bears also placed seventh in the New England Alliance Championships scoring 42 points.

Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.) set a new MASCAC mark in the mile (5:08.42) and Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) took the conference crown in the weight throw (49'3.75"). Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) and Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) were also respective winners in the 5,000 meters (19:15.45) and triple jump (33'09.50") for the Bears.

The 4x200 team of Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass), Caitlin DiLorenzo (Seekonk, Mass), Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass), and Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass) broke the school record by running a time of 1:49.20 and placing third. They eclipsed the previous school mark of 1:49.82 set in 2012.

Anselmi and Aldred placed fifth (1:03.18) and sixth (1:04.15), respectively, in the 400. The duo, along with McHugh and Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass), were also in the 4x400 team that placed third in the MASCAC with a time of 4:12.67. Geldmacher also placed fourth in the 600 with a time of 1:46.23.

Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass), Megan Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass), and Elizabeth Moreau (Marshfield, Mass) all placed in the 800-meter run with times of 2:29.73 (third), 2:36.60 (fifth), and 2:38.83 (sixth), respectively. Samantha Pinkham (Hingham, Mass) was the only scoring Bear in the 3,000 with a fourth place showing of 11:35.91.

Chiasson and Nnemdi Azubuko (Dorchester, Mass) gained fifth place scoring points in the shot put and long jump. Chiasson had a toss of 32 feet, 8.50 inches in the shot, while Azubuko posted a leap of 14 feet, 3.75 inches in the long jump.

The 4x800 relay team of Connolly, Rouillard, Poto, and Cullinane had a second place finish with a time of 10:11.20, which broke the previous meet record of 10:22.73 set by Bridgewater State in 2010. The only problem was that the Westfield State team ran a time of 9:57.23, demolishing the record.

The Bears will return to Southern Maine next weekend for the New England Division III Championships.
