Women's Indoor Track & Field Competes at Wheaton Invitational

NORTON, Mass. -- Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass) set the school record in the weight throw and qualified for the ECAC Championships to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track and field team competed at the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday.

Chiasson placed second in the event with a throw of 47 feet, 8.50 inches, eclipsing the previous mark of 46 feet, 7.50 inches set by Alison Fletcher in 2003. She also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 1.25 inches.

Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass) placed fifth in both the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump she leaped 15 feet, and 9.50 inches. Her triple jump was 32 feet, 9.75 inches. She also placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.85 seconds, qualifying for the Division III New England Championships.

Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass) placed sixth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:20.93.

The 4x200 relay team made up of Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass), Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass), Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass), and Caitlin DiLorenzo (Seekonk, Mass) placed third with a time of 1:49.88. The girls qualified for the ECAC Championships, but just missed tying the school record by .06 seconds.

Next week the Bears travel to Boston University to compete at the Terrier Invitational. The women compete on Friday, with the men on Saturday.
