Robitaille, Lagasse Lead Women's Track & Field at Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) won three events and classmate Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, Mass.) eclipsed the school steeplechase record to lead the Bridgewater State University women’s outdoor track and field team at the season-opening, non-scoring BSU Bears Invitational on Saturday at Swenson Field.

Robitaille placed first and qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.88), the triple jump (34’5.5”) and the high jump (5’0.0”).  She also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.24 seconds).

Lagasse posted a time of 11:26.32 to finish first in the steeplechase as she broke her own school mark of 11:42.33 set last season.  She qualified for three postseason meets (DIII New Englands, ECAC, NEICAAA) in the event.  Lagasse also ran a leg on the Bears’ first place 4 x 400-meter relay (4:09.13) along with fellow seniors Co Davis (Mansfield, Mass.) and Melissa Harris (Uxbridge, Mass.) and junior Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.).

Davis added a first place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.60 seconds as she qualified for both DIII New Englands and ECACs, while Rouillard was the first to cross the line in the 800-meter run (2:24.00).

Junior Mychal-Lynne Folsom (Rockland, Mass.) posted a distance of 16 feet, 9.75 inches (5.12 meters) in the long jump to win the event and qualify for DIII New Englands.  She also placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.76 seconds to qualify for DIII New Englands and ECACs.  Folsom and sophomores Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass.) and Caitlin DiLorenzo (Seekonk, Mass.) along with freshman Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass.) grabbed first place in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 51.33 seconds.  McHugh added a third place showing in the 200-meter dash with a DIII New England qualifying time of 26.75 seconds.

Sophomore Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) also qualified for DIII New Englands for the Bears in the discus throw with a toss of 105 feet, 5.0 inches (32.14 meters) as she placed third in the event.

In upcoming action, the Bears will compete in the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, March 31st.
