EASTON, Mass. --- Senior classmates
Rachel Smith (Somerset, MA) and Nicole
Mauro (Mashpee, MA) placed in the top five in three events
to help pace the Bridgewater State women’s outdoor track and
field team to a 10th place finish at the Skyhawk Invitational.
The Bears scored 26 total team points while Boston College was the
meet winner with 125.50 points. The meet was held this past
Saturday at Stonehill’s W.B Mason Stadium in nearby
Easton.
Smith finished 20 seconds off UMass-Lowell’s Lauren
Riamondi's time to take second in the 100 meter hurdles
(:15:57) and fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:01.56) while Mauro
crossed the finish line in second place in the 5000 (18:04.22). All
three times were good enough for both Mauro and Smith to qualify
and compete at the ECAC’s in the middle of May.
Smith and Mauro, along with freshmen Amanda
Hauswirth (Methuen, MA) and Jessica
Edinger (Sutton, MA), also helped take home third place on
BSC’s 4 x 800 relay team (10:17.88).
Hauswirth finished 17th in the 1500 (5:15.56) while classmate
Carrissa Penney (Gardner, MA) placed 20th in the
800 (2:31.79). Freshman Deborah Solorzano (Woburn,
MA) and senior Courtney Bubier (Marlborough, MA)
also ran to 17th (22:11.74) and 18th (22:56.63) finishes,
respectively, in the 5000.
In the field, freshman Brittany Paige (Winthrop,
MA) threw a seventh place finish in the hammer throw (107-11),
eighth in the discus (99-02) and 11th in the shot-put (32-07).
Classmate Heather Roux also placed 16th in the
discus (76-02).
The Bears are back in action this Saturday when they travel to
Boston, MA to compete in the Bernard Solomon Invitational at
Northeastern. The first event will start at 10 A.M.
