Mauro Leads Women's Indoor Team at Alliance Championships

GORHAM, Maine -- Senior distance runner Nicole Mauro (Mashpee, MA) won the 3000-meter title to pace the Bridgewater State College women's indoor track team to an eighth place finish at the New England Alliance Championships on Saturday hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

Mauro posted a time of 10:53.15 to edge Southern Maine's Alison Bradley (10:57.87) in 3000-meter race.  Mauro also placed fourth in the mile run (5:24.13) and helped the 4 x 800 relay team set a new BSC indoor record.

Freshmen Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, MA), Amanda Hauswirth (Methuen, MA) and Carissa Penney (Gardner, MA) joined Mauro on the Bears' record setting relay team which posted a time of 10:24.06 to finish in third place at the championships.  The previous record of 10:34.72 was set by Kathleen Smith, Tammy Souza, Amy Walls and Kristen Iworsky back in 2002.

Bridgewater registered a score of 26 points to finish in the eighth spot.  Host Southern Maine won the women's title with a score of 196.50.
