Mauro Sets School Mark to Leads BSC Women's Indoor Team

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Bridgewater State College senior Nicole Mauro (Mashpee, MA) placed first in the 5,000-meter run and, in the process, set a new school record to lead the BSC women's indoor track team at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.

Mauro posted a time of 18:43.05 in the 5,000-meter run, bettering the previous school mark of 18:48.95 set by Kristen Iworsky back in 2003.

The Bears' relay team of Mauro and freshmen Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, MA), Amanda Hauswirth (Methuen, MA) and Carissa Penney (Gardner, MA) also set a new school record as they registered a time of 13:24.61 in the distance medley relay to post a third place finish.  They shattered the old mark of 14:42.73 set back in 2001.  The distance medley relay consists of four legs run at distances of 1200, 400, 800, and 1600 meters.

Hauswirth, Penney and fellow freshmen Brittany Paige (Winthrop, MA) also garnered top ten finishes fpr the Bears in individual events.  Hauswirth finished seventh in the 1,000-meter run (3:17.87), while Penney placed ninth in the 800-meter run (2:32.81) and Paige sixth in the shot put (31'8.5").
