MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior distance runner Nicole Mauro (Mashpee, MA) set a school record and captured first place in the 3,000-meter run, and also placed fifth in the mile run, to lead the Bridgewater State College women's indoor track & field team to a sixth place finish at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.
Mauro posted a time of 10:34.16 in the the 3,000 to eclipse Kristen Iworsky's previous indoor school mark of 10:39.63. Mauro also registered a time of 5:31.10 in the mile run.
Also highlighting the meet for the Bears were freshmen Carissa Penney (Gardner, MA) and Brittany Paige (Winthrop, MA). Penney placed sixth in the 1,000-meter run (3:20.88), while Paige recorded a throw of 33'4.4" to finish eighth in the weight throw.
UMass Lowell won the women's meet with a score of 236 points.
The Bears will return to the track on Saturday as they travel to Middletown, Connecticut for the Wesleyan Invitational II.
