Women's Tennis Downs Plymouth State in Regular Season Finale, 8-1

PLYMOUTH, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team wrapped up regular season play with an 8-1 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over Plymouth State University on Sunday afternoon at the Holderness School Courts.

The Bears improve to 9-4 on the season and 6-2 in the Little East while the Panthers fall to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Bridgewater is the #3 seed in this week's Little East Tournament and will host #6 Western Connecticut State University in a first round match on Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock. Plymouth is the #5 seed in the tournament and will travel to #4 UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon (TBA).

The Bears swept the three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles flights.

In doubles play, junior Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and graduate Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) teamed for an 8-1 win at the top spot while senior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) posted an 8-3 decision at the second flight. Sophomore Yasmine Queen (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Bettencourt (Tiverton, R.I.,) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 triumph at number three.

Von Ruden (6-2, 6-1), Silveira (6-3, 7-5), Carter (6-2, 6-3), Lotti (7-5, 6-3) and Bettencourt (6-2, 6-1) all won in straight sets for the Bears at the first, second, third, fifth and sixth flights, respectively.

Notes: Bridgewater State is now 18-5 all-time versus the Panthers and 9-3 on the road since the Bears joined the LEC in 2004.
