Women's Tennis Downs Curry, 6-3, for Third Straight Win

MILTON, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory over Curry College on Wednesday afternoon at the Scott Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 3-1 on the season with their third straight win, while the Colonels slip to 0-4.

Bridgewater captured two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles flights.

In doubles play, senior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) paired up for an 8-2 win at the second flight while sophomore Yasmine Queen (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Bettencourt (Tiverton, R.I.) teamed for an 8-2 triumph at number three.

Senior Sasha Borkov (Newton, Mass.) and junior Serena Wilson (Windsor, Conn.) notched the Colonels' lone doubles point with an 8-6 decision at the top flight.

Bettencourt breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory at number six singles and Lotti followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the fifth flight to put the Bears at match point. Carter then secured the decisive fifth point with her 20th career singles win, a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at number three.

Bettencourt is a perfect 4-0 in singles play, while the pairing of Bettencourt and Queen is 4-0 in dual match doubles competition.

Graduate Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) rounded out Bridgewater's singles winners with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at the third flight.

Borkov and junior Grace Coopee (Hampden, Mass.) picked up points for the Colonels in singles play. Borkov edged BSU junior Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.), 6-2, 7-5, in the battle of top-flight singles players, whole Coopee earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at number four.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30. The Bears entertain Roger Williams University while the Colonels host Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Western New England University.
