Women's Tennis Holds Off Plymouth State, 5-4

HOLDERNESS, R.I. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team edged Plymouth State University, 5-4, in a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Saturday afternoon in Holderness, New Hampshire.

The defending Little East champion Bears improve to 4-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference play with a perfect 3-0 record. The Panthers fall to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the LEC.

Bridgewater captured two out of three doubles matches and split the six singles flights to come away with the close victory.

The Bears doubles tandem of seniors Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) earned a 9-7 decision at number one, while the senior pairing of Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) won 8-5 at the second flight.

In singles play, Roman cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 straight set triumph at the second spot, while Scagnelli also won in straight sets at number three, 6-1, 6-2. Strickland gave the Bears the deciding fifth point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the fourth flight.

Roman is 31-2 all-time in singles play and 32-2 in doubles play against Little East opponents. She has won 24 straight singles matches versus Little East opponents. 

The Little East schedule continues for Bridgewater State on Tuesday afternoon as the Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth for a three o'clock match with the Corsairs.
