Women's Tennis Posts 7-2 Win Over Eastern Nazarene

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team cruised to a 7-2 non-conference victory over visiting Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 8-5 on the season, while the Lions end the 2016 campaign with an overall mark of 1-8.

Bridgewater captured two out the three doubles flights and five of the six singles matches to come away with the win.

In doubles play, sophomore Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) posted an 8-4 win at the second flight, while juniors Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) and Ilektra Koutsogiannopoulos (Taunton, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-1 victory at number three. For Koutsogiannopoulos, the win marked the first of her career.

Sophomore Adele Duval (Redding, CA) and junior Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) picked up the Lions lone doubles play with a tough 9-8 win at the top flight. The match was decided with 7-5 tie-breaker.

In singles play, junior Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.), junior Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.), Strickland, Tarantino and Gray all won in straight sets at the second through sixth flights, respectively.

Duval outlasted BSU junior Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) in the battle of the top flight singles players, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.

The Bears wrap up regular season play on Saturday afternoon (1:00 PM) on the road against Little East Conference for UMass Boston. A win over the Beacons would clinch the top seed and a first round bye in next week's Little East Tournament.
