Women's Tennis Falls to Endicott, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Endicott College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Bridgewater State University on Monday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Gulls improve to 10-3 on the season, while the Bears fall to 7-5.

Endicott swept the three doubles matches and captured each of the six singles flight to record the non-conference victory.

In doubles play, sophomore Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) teamed with senior Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) for an 8-0 triumph at the top flight, while sophomores Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingsworth, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) recorded an 8-2 decision at number three.

In a tightly contested second doubles match, sophomores Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, Mass.) and Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) outlasted the Bears' junior tandem of Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.), 8-6.

Barnett, Rahr and Andreasen all won in straight sets at the first, third and fifth singles flights, respectively.

Fitzgibbons earned a hard-fought triumph at second doubles over Roman. They split the first two sets with Roman recording a 6-3 win in the second set. Fitzgibbons won the pro set tie-breaker, 10-7.

Sophomores Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) and Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) rounded out the Gulls' singles winners at the fourth and sixth flights. Freter edged BSU junior Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.), 7-5, in the opening set before closing it out with a 6-2 decision in set two.

The Bears are back in action on Thursday afternoon when they host Eastern Nazarene College at three. The Gulls will compete at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on Friday.
