Women's Tennis Drops 9-0 Decision to Roger Williams

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over host Bridgewater State University on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The visiting Hawks improve to 8-1 on the season, while the Bears even their record at 3-3.

Roger Williams swept all three doubles matches and each of the six singles flight to record the win.

Juniors Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) teamed for an 8-3 victory at third flight doubles. Hughes also won in straight sets at first singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Akerman breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 straight set decision at the second spot.

On Saturday, the Bears will compete at the 32nd Annual Newport Grass Court Doubles Tournament held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The Hawks are off until next Wednesday afternoon when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Curry College at four.
