BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Hayley Anderson has been selected as the Little East Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Anderson played a key role in the Bears' conference opening 5-4 win over defending champion Plymouth State University this past weekend. The San Antonio, Texas native claimed a 6-2, 6-1 straight victory at third flight singles and teamed with sophomore Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) for an 8-6 triumph at first doubles.

Earlier in the week, Anderson dropped a tough three set match to her third flight singles opponent from Endicott College, 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 10-4. Endicott has made five trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament since 2008 including each of the last four seasons.

The BSU women's tennis team returns to the court for its home opener on Tuesday afternoon as the Bears (1-2) will entertain non-conference foe Johnson & Wales University at 3:30.
