Women's Tennis Blanks Salem State, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team swept three doubles matches and took all six singles flights en route to a 9-0 victory over Little East Conference foe Salem State University on Monday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 8-3 on the season and 6-0 in the Little East with their fifth straight win, while the visiting Vikings slip to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Bridgewater also clinched a first round bye in next week's Little East Tournament.

Bridgewater State received doubles wins from sophomore Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Hayley Anderson (San Antonio, Texas) at the top flight, senior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass.) at the second spot, and the sophomore pairing of Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) and Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) at number three.

Silva, Anderson, sophomore Rebecca Zeuschner (West Hartford, Conn.), Scagnelli and Roman all breezed to straight set victories at the second through sixth flights, respectively. In the final match to be completed, Vautrin split the first two sets, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), before earning a 10-4 decision in the third and deciding set to earn the win at the top spot.

Anderson and Roman both improve to 6-0 in singles play against Little East opponents, while the tandem of Roman and Scagnelli remain unbeaten (6-0) in conference doubles competition.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Gordon College on Wednesday afternoon for a four o'clock match with the Fighting Scots, while the Vikings host the Lions of Emerson College on Thursday at three.
