Women's Tennis Garners 7-2 Little East Win over UMass Boston

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches with a 7-2 victory over Little East Conference foe UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The host Bears improve to 7-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in Little East play with a 5-0 conference mark. The visiting Beacons slip to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the LEC. Bridgewater is a perfect 10-0 all-time versus UMB.

The Bears kept their perfect Little East Conference season intact thanks to wins at second and third doubles and second through sixth singles.

In doubles play, senior captain Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-3 victory at second doubles, while the sophomore tandem of Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) and Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) posted an 8-0 win at the third flight.

Sophomore Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) and senior Logan Smith (Southwick, Mass.) earned the lone doubles point for the visiting Beacons with an 8-0 decision at the top spot.

Silva, freshman Hayley Anderson (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomores Rebecca Zeuschner (West Hartford, Conn.), Scagnelli and Roman all won in straight sets in singles play for the Bears at the second through sixth flights, respectively. Silva's match went to a second set tie-breaker as she posted a 6-3, 7-6 (6-0) decision.

Garcia posted a 6-0, 6-2 decision at the first flight to give the Beacons their lone singles point.

The Bears are back in action on Monday when they host Little East rival Salem State University at noon. The  Beacons entertain Western Connecticut State University in their final conference match of the season on Wednesday afternoon at three.
