Women's Tennis Posts 8-1 Win over Emerson

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over visiting Emerson College on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears, who have won six of their last seven matches, improve to 6-3 on the season, while the visiting Lions fall to 0-8.

Sophomore Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Hayley Anderson (San Antonio, Texas) teamed up for an 8-2 decision at first doubles, while senior captain Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass.) cruised to an 8-0 win at the second flight.

In singles play, Vautrin and Silva garnered straight set wins at the first (6-2, 6-0) and second (6-0, 6-2) flights, respectively. Sophomore Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) added a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number four, while classmate Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) also won in straight sets at the fifth flight, 6-2, 6-0.

The Bears also received forfeit wins at third doubles and sixth singles.

Freshman Jamie CoConis (Ridgefield, Conn.) posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at number three singles for the Lions lone point of the match.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain Little East Conference foe UMass Boston on Saturday (Oct. 10) at noon. The Lions are off until next Wednesday (Oct. 14) when they travel to NEWMAC foe Babson College for a three o'clock match with the Beavers.
