Women's Tennis Downs Worcester State, 8-1

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team captured three doubles matches and five of six singles flights as the visiting Bears downed Worcester State University, 8-1, in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears improve to 4-3 on the season and remain unbeated in Little East play with a 3-0 conference mark. The host Lancers slip to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the LEC.

Bridgewater State received doubles wins from sophomore Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Hayley Anderson (San Antonio, Texas) at the top flight, senior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Zeuschner (West Hartford, Conn.) at the second spot, and the sophomore tandem of Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) and Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) at number three.

Roman breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at sixth singles, while Silva posted a 6-1, 6-1 straight set triumph at the second flight to secure the fifth and deciding point for the Bears. Vautrin, Anderson and Scagnelli also won in straight sets at the first, third and fifth flights, respectively, to round out the scoring for the visitors.

The schedule continues for the Bears on Wednesday afternoon when they host Little East rival Rhode Island College at three.
