Women's Tennis Drops 8-1 Decision to Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Roger Williams University on Thursday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts.

The host Hawks improve to 7-2 on the season with the win, while the Bears slip to 3-3.

Roger Williams captured all three doubles matches and five of the six singles flight to come away with the non-conference victory.

Bridgewater State picked up its lone point of the afternoon at #6 singles, with Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) posting a 6-2, 6-4 straight set triumph.

Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) collected a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3 singles to earn her 52nd career victory. The win puts her in sole possession of first place in Roger Williams women's tennis history for career wins, breaking the tie of 51 with RWU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Sara Coleman ('03).

In addition to her singles win, Schmidt also teamed with Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) for an 8-1 win at first doubles.

On Saturday. Roger Williams (7-2) steps back into Commonwealth Coast Conference play against Nichols, while Bridgewater State (3-3) takes on Little East Conference foe Worcester State.
