Women's Tennis Ties for Fourth at Grass Court Doubles Tournament

NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team tied for fourth place at the 31st Annual Women's Grass Court Doubles Tournament hosted by Salve Regina University at the Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The Bears notched five team points to finish in a tie with Nicholas College.

Sophomore Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Hayley Anderson (San Antonion, Texas) went 1-1 out of Flight A.  Silva and Anderson captured an 8-1 win over their opponents from UMass Dartmouth in the quarterfinals before dropping an 8-2 decision to Ashlyn Ramsey and Ashley Woodside of Colby-Sawyer College in the semifinals.

The Bears' sophomore tandem of Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) recorded a 1-1 mark out of Flight C.  Roman and Scagnelli posted an 8-2 victory over their opponents from Salve Regina University in the quarterfinals before falling 8-5 to Katie Elia and Morgan McGuire of Holy Cross in the semifinals.

Senior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Zeuschner (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 1-2 in the Flight B bracket with an 8-3 victory over their opponents from Salve Regina in the consolation round.

Holy Cross captured the team championship with 16 points. The Crusaders appeared in the finals of all three flights, and captured both Flights B and C to secure the title.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Little East Conference rival Western Connecticut State University at 3:30.
