BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Alisha Silva has been selected as the Little East Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Silva helped the Bears post a season-opening 5-4 victory over Gordon College in their only match of the week.  With the Bears and Fighting Scots tied at 4-4, the East Taunton, Massachusetts native battled back from a set down to notch a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 triumph at third singles and give the Bears the team win.

Silva also competed at the top doubles flight in her first collegiate match as she teamed with senior Hayley Perron (Plympton, Mass.).

The BSU women's tennis team returns to the court on Tuesday afternoon.  The defending Little East champion Bears will entertain non-conference foe Suffolk University at 3:30.
