Women's Tennis Posts 7-2 Little East Win over UMass Dartmouth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over Little East Conference foe UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears, winners of four straight matches, remain unbeaten in the Little East as they improve to 4-0 in conference play and 6-1 overall.  The Corsairs slip to 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in the LEC.

Bridgewater swept all three doubles matches and captured four of the six singles flights to record the win.

Senior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) and freshman Alisha Silva (East Taunton, Mass.) teamed for an 8-4 win at first doubles, while junior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) paired up for an 8-4 decision at the second flight.  The Bears' third flight tandem of senior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 triumph.

In singles play, Silva, Flynn, Eramo and Roman all won in straight sets at the third through sixth flights, respectively.  Eramo's victory at the fifth spot gave the Bears the deciding match point.

Bridgewater held a 7-0 lead before UMass won at first and second singles to put the Corsairs on the board. UMD junior Maggie LeBrun (Mattapoisett, Mass.) earned a 6-4, 7-6 win at number one with the second set being decided in a 7-3 tie-breaker.  Freshman Kerry Magoon (Marshfield, Mass.) split the first two sets, 6-3, 2-6, at the second flight before posting a 10-8 decision in the super tie-breaker.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon for a Little East Conference match with the Beacons starting at one.  The Corsairs head to the University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut on Friday afternoon for a four o'clock match with the Blue Jays.

Notes: Bridgewater has won six straight matches against UMass dating back to 2010.
