Women's Tennis Improves to 10-0 with 9-0 Win over Southern Maine

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season as the host Bears downed the University of Southern Maine, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in Little East Conference action at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 10-0 overall and sit atop the Little East Conference standings at 6-0. Bridgewater is now 29-1 in LEC regular season play dating back to 2010.  The visiting Huskies fall to 7-6 overall and 2-5 in the LEC.

Bridgewater swept all three doubles flights and all six singles matches to post the shutout victory.

Sophomore Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and junior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) registered an 8-1 win at third doubles to open the scoring, while seniors Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) and Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-2 decision at the top flight.  Senior Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-2 victory at the second spot.

The Bears would record straight set wins in each of the six singles matches with Williamson winning at number one (6-3, 6-2), McGuirk at the second flight (6-0, 6-0), Hopp at number three (6-3, 6-1), Flynn at number five (6-2, 6-0) and Eramo at the sixth flight (6-3, 6-1).

Williamson is 9-1 in singles play on the year and an impressive 48-5 (.906) in her four-year career.  She has never lost to a Little East opponent in 35 career matches.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater travels to Plymouth State University on Columbus Day for a two o'clock Little East match with the Panthers.  Southern Maine entertains conference rival Worcester State University next Saturday at noon.
