Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten with 6-3 Little East Win over RIC

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University posted a 6-3 win over Rhode Island College in Little East Conference women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The host Bears won two of three doubles matches and captured four of the six singles flights to remain unbeaten on the season at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Little East.  The Anchorwomen slip to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Bridgewater's top doubles tandem of seniors Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) and Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) posted an 8-2 win, while senior Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-0 victory at the second flight.  RIC's lone doubles point came from the third flight pairing of junior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Tressa Cannata (Cranston, R.I.).

In singles play, junior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) earned a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the sixth spot to give the Bears a 3-1 advantage.  Williamson followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number one to increase the lead to 4-1, before McGuirk clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the second flight.

Hopp battled back from a set down to round out the BSU scoring at third singles.  After dropping the opening set, 4-6, Hopp posted a 6-3 decision in the second set and then won the tiebreaker, 11-9.

The Anchorwomen received singles win from freshman Julie Reddy (Greenville, R.I.) at number four, 6-3, 6-3, and classmate Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, R.I.) at the fifth flight, 6-4, 6-1.

Both teams return to the court on Saturday afternoon.  Bridgewater entertains Little East rival UMass Boston at noon, while RIC hosts conference foe Plymouth State University at one.

Notes: McGuirk remains undefeated in singles play for the Bears as she improves to 7-0....Williamson is 6-1 in singles play on the year and an impressive 45-5 (.900) in her four-year career....Williamson has never lost to a Little East opponent in her career as she is a perfect 32-0.
