Women's Tennis Edges Johnson & Wales, 5-4

SEEKONK, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team downed host Johnson & Wales University, 5-4, in a non-conference contest at The Wheeler Farm on Tuesday afternoon.

Bridgewater State held the 2-1 advantage after doubles play, including an 8-6 win at the second spot by senior Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.).  McGuirk also posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles in the win for the visitors.

The tandem of junior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Riley Palcic (Sun River, Ore.) posted an 8-6 decision at the third doubles flight for the Bears, while JWU's top pair of junior Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.) and senior Ansley Sego (Naperville, Ill.) picked up the Wildcats' lone doubles point with an 8-6 win.

After senior Darcy Predieri (Sunbury, Ohio) tied the match for the Wildcats with a 6-1, 6-1 win to open singles play scoring at the third flight, the Bears reclaimed the lead with a 6-1, 6-6-1 straight set win by senior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) at the top spot.  McGuirk gave the Bears a 4-2 lead with her win at the second flight, and senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) secured the deciding fifth point with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at number three.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 3-1 while Bridgewater State remains undefeated at 3-0.  The Wildcats return to action on Thursday when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference contest starting at 3:30 p.m.  The Bears head to Worcester State University on Saturday for a noontime Little East Conference match with the Lancers.
