Women's Tennis Downs Western Connecticut, 9-0

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Little East Conference (LEC) foe Western Connecticut State University on Friday afternoon.

Bridgewater improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-0 in the Little East as the visiting Bears won each of the six singles flights in straight sets as well as all three doubles matches.  Western Connecticut falls to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) led the way for the Bears with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the top singles slight.  Williamson also teamed with senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-0 win at first doubles.

Seniors Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) and Brittney Hislop (Burley, Wash.), freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.), Hopp and sophomore Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) also won in singles play at the second through sixth flights, respectively.

Pereira and Hislop paired up for an 8-1 decision at second doubles, while Vautrin and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) posted an 8-0 victory at third flight doubles.

Williamson, Vautrin, Hopp and Flynn are all 8-1 in singles play on the season and 5-0 versus Little East opponents. As a team, the Bears are 29-1 in singles flights and 15-0 in doubles matches in LEC play.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon for a one o'clock Little East match with the Huskies.
