Women's Tennis Blanks UMass Boston, 9-0

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team blanked host UMass Boston, 9-0, in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Bears improve to 6-2 on the season and remain unbeaten in Little East play with a 4-0 conference mark.  UMass falls to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the LEC.

After winning all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead, the Bears breezed to straight set victories in each of the six singles flights to win the match.

Junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) teamed with senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-4 win at first doubles.  Seniors Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) and Brittney Hislop (Burley, Wash.) garnered an 8-3 triumph at second doubles, while freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) paired up for an 8-0 decision at the third flight.

Williamson posted a 6-2, 6-1 decision in the battle of the top singles players, while Pereira won 6-0, 6-1 at the second flight.  Hislop earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number three and Vautrin coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the fourth spot.  Hopp and sophomore Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) had very little trouble at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively, as they each won 6-0, 6-0.

Williamson, Vautrin, Hopp and Flynn are all 7-1 in singles play on the season and 4-0 versus Little East opponents. As a team, the Bears are 23-1 in singles flight and 12-0 in doubles matches in LEC play.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater hosts conference foe UMass Dartmouth (8-0, 5-0 LEC) on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30.  The Bears trail the Corsairs by a half game in the conference standings.
