Women's Tennis Downs Little East Foe Plymouth State, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team opened Little East Conference (LEC) play with an 8-1 victory over visiting Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears, who improve to 2-0 (1-0 LEC) on the year, won all three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles flights to secure the win.  Plymouth falls to 1-1 (1-1 LEC) on the young season.

Bridgewater's top flight doubles tandem of junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior Lauren Hopp (Darmouth, Mass.) posted an 8-5 win, while seniors Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) and Brittney Hislop (Burley, WA) at second doubles and freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) at the third flight won 8-4 and 8-1, respectively.

In singles play, Williamson battled to a tough three-set victory at number one as she came back from a set down to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-7.  The Bears also received straight set victories from Pereira at second singles, Vautrin at number four, Hopp at the fifth spot, and freshman Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) at the sixth flight.

Plymouth's lone win came from freshman Nitsa Ioannides (El Cajon, Calif.) at third singles.  Ioannides edged Hislop in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater entertains Little East foe Worcester State University on Sunday afternoon at one, while Plymouth hosts Endicott College on Tuesday at four.
