Women's Tennis Improves to 6-0 in LEC Play with 9-0 Win over Southern Maine

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Little East Conference (LEC) play as the host Bears downed the University of Southern Maine Huskies, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.

BSU improves to 9-1 on the season and 6-0 in the Little East, while Southern Maine slips to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Led by top flight singles and doubles player, sophomore Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.), the Bears swept the three doubles matches and captured all six singles flights to come away with the win.  Williamson posted a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory at number one singles and teamed with junior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) for an 8-6 triumph at first doubles.  

Bridgewater also received straight set singles wins from senior Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, Mass.), junior Julie Kraby (Wrentham, Mass.), Pereira and freshmen Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) and  Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) at the second through sixth flights respectively.

Murphy and Kraby paired up for an 8-3 decision at second doubles, while Eramo and Flynn battled to an 8-6 victory at the third flight.

In six Little East matches this season, the Bears are 34-2 (.944) in singles competition and a perfect 18-0 in doubles play.

Bridgewater will travel to conference rival UMass Dartmouth next Thursday for a 3:30 match with the Corsairs.  Southern Maine host Johnson State tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
