Women's Tennis Knocks Off  RIC, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over visiting Rhode Island College in Little East Conference action at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.

The host Bears improve to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Little East.  RIC slips to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Bridgewater captured all three doubles flights and five of the six singles matches to come away with the win.

Sophomore Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) posted an 8-2 decision at first doubles, while senior Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and junior Julie Kraby (Wrentham, Mass.) teamed for an 8-1 triumph at the second flight.  Freshmen Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) and Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) combined to win at number three, 8-0.

Williamson, Murphy, Pereira, Eramo and Flynn all won in straight sets during singles play at the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth flights respectively.

RIC's lone victory came at number three singles as junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, R.I.) also earned a straight set decision.

Bridgewater will host Roger Williams University on Friday afternoon at 3:30 in a non-conference match.  RIC entertains non-conference foe Suffolk University on Thursday at 3:30.
