Women's Tennis Blanks Plymouth State, 9-0

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Defending Little East Conference champion Bridgewater State University had little trouble in beginning defense of its title Saturday afternoon, blanking Plymouth State University, 9-0, in a women's tennis match at the P.E. Center Courts.

Sophomore Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) led the Bears, posting victories at No.1 singles and at No. 1 doubles with teammate junior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.).  They helped the Bears get off to a 1-0 start to the season, while PSU drops to 1-1 both overall and in LEC matches.

The Bears swept the three doubles matches to start off, winning easily at No. 1 and No. 3 while senior Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and junior Julie Kraby (Wrentham, Mass.) needed a tiebreaker to pull out the win at No. 2.  Kraby and freshman Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) posted victories in straight sets at Nos. 3 and 5 singles to clinch the match for the Bears.

Finishing off the match for BSU were singles wins by freshman Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) at No. 6, Murphy at No. 2, Williamson at No. 1, and Pereira at No. 4.

PSU returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference match at Castleton State College, while BSU is right back on the court Monday with a visit to Gordon College.
