Women's Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision to UMass Dartmouth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team handed host Bridgewater State University their first loss of the season as the Corsairs downed the Bears, 6-3, in Little East Conference action this afternoon in Bridgewater.

The Corsairs improve to 5-1 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East while Bridgewater falls to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.  UMass won all three doubles matches and captured three of the six singles flights to secure the victory.

Senior Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, Mass.) paced visiting UMass as she won in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) at first singles and teamed with junior Alexa Fiorita (Reading, Mass.) for an 8-6 triumph at number one doubles.

BSU freshman Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) won in straight sets at third singles (6-3, 6-1) and the Bears also received singles victories from junior Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, Mass.) at number five (7-6, 6-2) and freshman Alison Joseph (Dartmouth, Mass.) at the sixth flight (6-4, 3-6, 6-4).

Bridgewater will look to get back on the winning track on Monday afternoon when the Bears host Plymouth State University at 2 PM in a Little East Conference match.  UMass hosts MCLA on Monday at noon.
