Women's Tennis Falls to Salem State, 6-3

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's tennis team ended the 2009 regular season with a tough 6-3 loss to Little East Conference rival Salem State College this afternoon in Bridgewater.

With the loss, the Bears drop to 10-3 on the season and 4-3 in the Little East.  Salem improves to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play. 

BSC will await the outcome of next Tuesday's Rhode Island College/UMass Dartmouth match to find out where they will be seeded for the upcoming Little East Tournament.  Salem is the second seed and will also have to wait and see who their opponent will be.

The match was close throughout with Bridgewater losing two of the three doubles matches by scores of 9-8 and 9-7.  BSC won two singles flights and dropped a heartbreaker at number six, losing in a tie-breaker, 14-12.  

Salem State senior Megan Cote (Fall River, MA) won the first singles battle and also teamed with junior Jessica Distler (Pepperell, MA) for a 9-8 victory at first doubles.

Bridgewater State was led by senior Paulina Ucher (Webster,  MA) who helped notch two of the Bears' three points.  Ucher posted a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at fourth flight singles and paired up with junior Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA) for an 8-5 triumph at second doubles. 

Also scoring for BSC was senior Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA) who won in straight sets at number three singles, 6-1, 6-4.
