Women's Tennis Blanks Curry College, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and all six singles flights as the Bears breezed to a 9-0 non-conference victory over Curry College this afternoon in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater improves to 10-2 on the season as the Bears put an end to a modest two-game losing streak.  Curry wraps up dual match play with an overall record of 4-13.  The Colonels have dropped three straight matches and five of their last six.

Junior Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA) paced the Bears with a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at first flight singles. She also teamed with junior Jessica Francis (West Barnstable, MA) for an 8-2 triumph at first doubles.  Francis posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory in singles play at the third flight.

Also winning in singles play for the Bears were senior Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA) at the second flight, sophomore Julie Kraby (Wrentham, MA) at fourth singles, sophomore Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, MA) at the fifth flight and sophomore Jenna Nowlin (Bridgewater, MA) at number six.  Rosa, Kraby and Nowlin all won in straight sets, while Murphy went to a three-set tiebreaker (3-6, 6-1, 10-5).

Rosa and Kraby paired up for an 8-3 triumph at second flight doubles, while freshmen Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, MA) and Ashley Pereira (Assonet, MA) posted an 8-2 win at third doubles.

BSC will wrap up regular season play on Saturday as the Bears host Little East Conference foe Salem State College at noon.
