DANBURY, Conn. -- The Western Connecticut State
University women's tennis team moved into first place in the Little
East Conference with an 8-1 victory over previously unbeaten
Bridgewater State College at Westside Courts Tuesday night.
The Colonials, now 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the LEC, swept the six
singles matches including two-set victories by Lauren
Post at number one singles and Alyssa
Hoynack at third singles.
Brittany DiMauro edged Bridget
Murphy, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in the sixth singles match.
The other three singles matches were a bit tighter.
Brittany Hoynack came from behind to defeat
Rachel Elman, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-1 in second
singles action while Alison Mahony needed to rally
by Jessica Francis, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
The match of the night might have been at fifth singles.
Jenna Kosiba was blanked in the first set, 6-0
before coming from behind to defeat Julie Kraby, 0-6, 7-5, 6-4.
In double action, Kosiba and Post defeated Francis and
Lauren Donnelly, 8-4, at first doubles while the
Hoynack sisters edged Elman and Murphy, 8-3.
Rosa and Kraby picked up the Bears only win by defeating
Elizabeth Bonacci and Maxx
Zimmer, 8-2 in the final match under the lights.
Bridgewater drops to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the Little East
Conference.
