Women's Tennis Stays Unbeaten with 8-1 Win over RIC

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's tennis teams remained undefeated on the season as the Bears downed Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College, 8-1, this afternoon in Bridgewater.

BSC improves to 9-0 on the year and 4-0 in conference play.  Bridgewater is unbeaten throught nine matches for the first time since the 1989 season when the team finished 13-0.  RIC falls to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the Little East.

The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three of the doubles matches highlighted by an 8-5 win by the top flight combination of juniors Lauren Donnelly (Centerville, MA) and Jessica Francis (West Barnstable, MA). 

BSC then proceeded to capture five of the six singles matches to come away with the easy 8-1 triumph.  Donnelly, Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA), Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA), Paulina Ucher (Webster, MA) and Julie Kraby (Wrentham, MA) all breezed to straight set wins in their respective flights.

RIC's lone victory came at fifth singles as freshman Marissa Langellier (Greenville, RI) won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

BSC will travel to Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday afternoon (4 PM) for a key Little East match with the Colonials.  RIC also has a conference match on Tuesday as the Anchorwomen head to UMass Boston to take on the Beacons at 3:30.
