Women's Tennis Wins Seventh Straight Match

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Bridgewater State College women's tennis team remained undefeated on the season as the Bears edged Roger Williams University, 5-4, this afternoon in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Bridgewater is unbeaten throught seven matches for the first time since the 1989 season when the team finished 13-0.  BSC split the singles matches, but took two of the three doubles matches to defeat a strong Roger Williams team.

The #1 singles competition was played by Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, CT) from RWU who defeated Bridgewater State's Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA) by a score of 6-4, 6-2.  Also winning for the Hawks was Tracy Klein (New City, NY) in the #2 singles match over Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA) in a three set match, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.  The #3 singles was won by the home team as well, as Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, MA) beat Paulina Ucher (Webster, MA) from BSC in another three set match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. 

Bridgewater State was victorious in the other three singles matches.  The #4 singles was won by Jessica Francis (West Barnstable, MA) over Katelin Richard (West Islip, NY), 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.  Julie Kraby (Wrentham, MA) from BSC defeated Libby Magner (Lakefield, MA) by a score of 6-0, 6-2.  The final singles match was won by Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, MA) over RWU's Melissa Perry (Bristol, RI) in three sets, 6-1, 0-6, 7-5.

The first doubles match saw RWU's Klein and Wolfe defeat BSC's Francis and Murphy, 8-3.  This would be the home team's only win in doubles as Elman and Ucher beat Ribchinsky and Magner 8-4, and Rosa and Kraby from BSC were victorious over the Hawks Richard and Kristin Dono (West Boylston, MA) by a final score of 9-8 (2-0 tiebreaker).

The RWU Women's Tennis team (5-3) is next in action against Western New England College on Saturday for a TCCC match with a scheduled start time of 12 pm in Springfield, Mass.  Bridgewater State will be at home against Little East Conference foe UMass Boston, also on Saturday at noon.
