Women's Tennis Downs Johnson & Wales, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 with a 7-2 victory over non-conference rival Johnson & Wales University this afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.

Junior co-captain Lauren Donnelly (Centerville, MA) paced the Bears as she posted a 6-2, 7-5 straight set win in the top flight singles match.  Donnelly also teamed with fellow junior co-captain Jessica Francis (West Barnstable, MA) for an 8-3 victory at first doubles.

The Bears won two of the three doubles flights as well as five of the six singles matches.  Junior Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles, and paired with senior Paulina Ucher (Webster, MA) for an 8-4 victory at second flight doubles.  Ucher also battled to a tough three set win (3-6, 6-1, 10-4) at fourth singles.

Senior Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA) and sophomore Julie Kraby (Wrentham, MA) also added singles victories as they both won in straight sets at the third and sixth flights respectively.

Sophomore Dana Trimborn (North Wales, MA) recorded a tough three set victory at fifth flight singles for Johnson & Wales.  Trimborn also partnered with senior Amber Dea (Honey Brook, PA) for an 8-6 win at third doubles.

Bridgewater State will look to make it three straight wins on Friday as the Bears open the Little East Conference schedule on the road against Plymouth State University. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 PM.  Johnson & Wales travels to Rhode Island College on Tuesday, September 15th (3:30).
