BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's tennis team remained undefeated on the season as the Bears knocked off UMass Boston, 8-1, today in a Little East Conference match played on the Boston College High School courts. With the win, the Bears improve to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Little East while the Beacons fall to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in LEC play.
BSC swept all three doubles flights and five of six singles matches to come away with the convincing win.
Junior Lauren Donnelly (Centerville, MA) paced the Bears with a straight set win at second flight singles (6-3, 6-4), while also teaming with sophomore Jessica Francis (West Barnstable, MA) for a 9-7 victory at number one doubles. Francis also posted a straight set win (6-2, 7-5) competing at third flight singles.
Junior Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA) took UMB's only point of the match at first singles, winning in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.
UMass Boston will be in action again on Friday, September 26 when it travels to Cambridge, Mass. to compete in the ITA New England Regionals hosted at MIT. Bridgewater State travels to Worcester, Mass. on September 22 to play Worcester State College in a match to be played on the campus of WPI at 3:30 PM.
