GORHAM, Maine - The Bridgewater State College Bears swept all six singles and all three doubles points to down the University of Southern Maine Huskies 9-0 in a Little East Conference women's tennis match Saturday afternoon in Gorham.
With the win Bridgewater State improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the LEC. The Huskies fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss.
Sophomore Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA) led the way in singles action defeating USM no. 1 singles player, freshman Amanda Coleman (Levant, ME), 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, Elman teamed with junior Paulina Ucher (Webster, MA) for an 8-2 win at no. 2 doubles over the USM duo of juniors Erica Robertson (St. Albans, VT) and Melissa Ford (Camden, ME).
Southern Maine returns to Little East Conference action on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) when it travels to Salem State College. Bridgewater State hosts LEC foe Plymouth State on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
