Simard Places 7th on Three-Meter Board at NCAA Regional Diving Championships

WATERVILLE, Maine. – Bridgewater State University sophomore Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) placed seventh out of a field of 27 student-athletes during the three-meter diving competition on Saturday afternoon at the 2024 NCAA Division III Northeast/North Regional Women's Diving Championships hosted by Colby College and held at the Harold Alfond Athletics & Recreation Center.

Simard, who was making her second straight appearance at the regional diving championships, posted an 11-dive score of 434.30 points.

Simard's highest-scoring dive today was a forward, 2 1/2 somersault, pike for which she earned 50.40 points on her seventh dive. An inward, 2 ½ somersault, tuck on Simard's final dive of the day scored a 48.60 and catapulted her into seventh place. She also recorded 45.60 points on her fifth dive (back, 1 ½ somersault, 1 ½ twist, free) and 45.00 points on her tenth (reverse, 1 ½ somersault, 1 ½ twist, free).

Freshman Fiora Beratahani of MIT captured top honors at the championship meet with 488.10 points.

MIT junior Rachel Loh (464.65 pts.) and sophomore Emma Scott (442.85 pts.) rounded out the top three scorers at the meet. They were followed by NYU freshman Maya Williams (438.15 pts.) in fourth place, senior Eleanor McGrath (434.80 pts.) of host Colby in fifth place, sophomore Malia Leung (434.60 pts.) of Tufts University in sixfth, Simard in seventh, and NYU sophomore Meera Kasturi (434.25 pts.) and junior Sadie Smith (434.25 pts.) of Bowdoin College tied for eighth.

Last season, Simard placed placed 16th out of a field of 24 student-athletes during the three-meter competition.

On Friday, Simard placed eighth in the one-meter diving competition with 396.90 points.

The top four finishers in each of the two diving events at this weekend's regionals automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, with qualifications beyond the top four possible to reach a total of eight divers that will qualify from the region.

Beratahani, Loh, Scott, Williams, McGrath, Leung and Amherst College junior Sydney Bluestein each earned an AQ to the national championship meet. Bluestein placed first in the one-meter competition on Friday evening while Beratahani finished second, Leung third and McGrath fourth. That leaves one spot open from the Northeast/North Region. The qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships will be officially announced next week.
