Simard Places 8th on One-Meter Board at NCAA Regional Diving Championships

WATERVILLE, Maine. – Bridgewater State University sophomore Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) placed eighth out of a field of 31 student-athletes during the one-meter diving competition on Friday evening at the 2024 NCAA Division III Northeast/North Regional Women's Diving Championships hosted by Colby College and held at the Harold Alfond Athletics & Recreation Center.

Simard, who is making her second straight appearance at the regional diving championships, posted an 11-dive score of 396.90 points.

Simard's highest-scoring dive today was a forward, 1 1/2 somersault, 1 twist free for which she earned 45.10 points on her second dive. A forward, 1 ½ somersault, 2 twist, free that Simard attempted for her sixth dive scored a 42.90. She also recorded 42.55 points on her eighth dive (back, 1 ½ somersault, pike) and 40.30 points on her seventh (forward, 1 ½ somersault, pike).

Junior Sydney Bluestein of Amherst College captured top honors at the championship meet with 454.55 points.

MIT freshman Fiora Beratahani (440.50 pts.) and sophomore Malia Leung (424.35 pts.) of Tufts University rounded out the top three scorers at the meet. They were followed by senior Eleanor McGrath (422.80 pts.) of host Colby in fourth place, MIT junior Rachel Loh (419.65 pts.) in fifth, sophomore Avery Rappaport (418.95 pts.) of host Colby in sixth place, NYU sophomore Meera Kasturi (399.90 pts.) in seventh and Simard in eighth.

Last season, Simard placed placed 17th out of a field of 26 student-athletes during the one-meter competition.

Simard will compete in the three-meter diving competition on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM.

The top four finishers in each of the two diving events automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, with qualifications beyond the top four possible to reach a total of eight divers that will qualify from the region.
