Women's Swimming & Diving Battles Roger Williams

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team competed against Roger Williams University on Friday evening at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (1-3) dropped a 160-71 decision to the visiting Hawks (1-2).

Sophomore Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) swept the diving events as she placed first on both the one-meter and three-meter boards. Simard posted a season-best score of 286.40 points on the one-meter board and a season-best score of 295.25 points on the three-meter plank.

Simard is currently ranked third in all of Division III in three-meter diving for a six-dive event and fourth in one-meter.

Junior Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.) was the first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle as she posted a winning time of 2:09.13.

Matte also swam a leg on the Bears' 200 freestyle relay team along with classmates Jenna Fiebiger (Johannesburg, South Africa), Olivia Pelletier (East Kingston, N.H.) and Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.). The foursome posted a time of 1:48.32 to place second in the event.

Freshman Ava Anderson (Lynn, Mass.) notched season-best scores of 193.40 points in the one-meter diving competition and 151.25 points in the three-meter to place second in both events.

The BSU women's swimming & diving team is back in action next Friday evening as the Bears entertain the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth at five o'clock.
