Simard Qualifies for Regionals as Women's Swimming & Diving Sinks Clark

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team posted a 153-145 dual meet victory over visiting Clark University on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (1-1) picked up their first dual meet win of the season while the Cougars (0-1) were competing in their first dual meet of the 2024 campaign.

Bridgewater placed first in nine of the 16 events.

BSU sophomore diver Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) swept the diving competition. Simard recorded a score of 260.75 points on the one-meter board and 265.5 points on the three-meter plank as she qualified for the NCAA Division III Northeast/North Regional Diving Championships for the second straight season.

Junior Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.) captured top honors in both the 1,000 freestyle (12:21.96) and 500 freestyle (5:59.75), while senior Jenna Maxim (Lakeville, Mass.) was the first to touch the wall in the 50 backstroke (30.22) and 100 backstroke (1:06.21).

Juniors Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Samantha White (Plymouth, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' individual event winners. Murray was the first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle (2:09.67). White was the top performer in the 50 breaststroke (35.68).

Matte, Murray and juniors Jenna Fiebiger (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Olivia Pelletier (East Kingston, NH) capped off the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay as the foursome posted a time of 3:58.61.

The BSU swimming and diving teams are back in action next Saturday afternoon when the Bears entertain Wheaton College at 2:00 PM.
